8 Day Positive Pledge

 

Everyone is invited to register for our 8th Annual Summer Experiment: the 8 Day Positive Pledge, which will be from August 4th – 11th. The Positive Pledge is an eight-day challenge that pushes participants to embrace a more positive outlook on life. This pledge was created by Miss V eight years ago when she saw a need for more positivity in her students' lives and herself. So often, we start our day dreading what we need to get done or getting sucked into negative thinking—this pledge aims to turn this way of thinking around. Positive thinking allows you to completely change your attitude toward life.

The Positive Pledge is eight days full of challenges, education, and encouragement. Each day comes with a new goal, starting out small and working in increments to help you reach your positivity goal. The Positive Pledge allows you to reflect on how you think and consciously decide to give yourself and others grace, while looking for positivity wherever you can.

8 Day Positive Pledge

  • Day 1: Start with giving yourself internal kudos

  • Day 2: Practice removing negative thoughts about yourself & replace with positive

  • Day 3: Practice removing negative thoughts about others & replace with positive

  • Day 4: Actively give genuine compliments to others – maybe even openly in real life, email/text or social media   

  • Day 5: Combine day 1 – 4

  • Day 6: Identify your urge to complain - mentally/verbally/written

  • Day 7: Practice - just for today, adjust your thoughts/spoken words to view the challenges of life and turn them around to opportunities

  • Day 8: Do your best, and combine all of the above

Each morning of the eight-day challenge, educational resources—usually something to read or watch involving the daily goal—will be sent to participants. We ask that each participate Reply only letting us know how you are doing – this makes the pledge more personal, keeps you accountable, and creates a chance for encouragement. These prompts are sent to promote self-reflection on how the day went. Did it go well? Do you need to work on a few things? Need more practice? Then, a follow up email will be sent in the afternoon as a friendly reminder to respond to the prompt, with a little note of encouragement. We realize that following a pledge for eight days may get difficult. We encourage you give yourself kudos for being observant, remember to be kind to yourself and others, and to gently nudge it back to the task at hand. You got this!

The Positive Pledge has impacted many people over the last eight years. Students continue to return to this pledge because of how it makes them think and reflect on their mindset. Participants found that they were more focused, honest, they checked in with themselves more, and made more conscious choices about being positive rather than just reacting to negativity. It’s ok to feel like you aren’t doing as well as expected, the key is to reset, allow the reminders and reflection prompts to keep you on track, and continue to reap the benefits of this pledge.
